Recently I've begun to ask brides, "Do you want your mom to dance or wash dishes at the wedding?" That's the best picture I can give them of what mom (or the maid of honor....or the bride herself) will be doing...IF they don't hire a wedding planner.
Well, I just ran across an article I wrote a couple of years ago. Read for yourself~
Here I sit on a snowy Sunday afternoon in January and
although I’m enjoying a nice, relaxing day my thoughts are turning to the newly
engaged bride-to-be! She’s just received the engagement ring of her dreams and
has called every friend she has ever known to give them the good news of her
upcoming Special Day! She is bombarded with all the questions, “When is your
date?”, “Where will it be?”, “What are
your colors?”, and on it goes with inquiries of every detail until, exhausted,
she fall asleep with the latest bridal magazine in her hands….and her dream
begins….(or will it be a nightmare?).
With visions from “Father of the Bride” in her mind, details
start swirling in her head…. “what kind of
‘fold’ would you like for your napkins?” …. “do you want to include maps
in your invitations?” …. “you can’t overlook your cousin’s twins as flower
girls” …. “do you really have to invite your dad’s boss?”….until she wakes up
searching for the Table of Contents to find out how to elope!
RELAX. That’s what Wedding Coordinators are for! Sure, in
days of old it was Mom and Aunt Suzie who took care of helping you plan your
wedding; but today you want Aunt Suzie to come enjoy the celebration and Mom to
be as stress-free as possible! With that in mind, let’s look at what a wedding
coordinator can do for you.
Many brides wonder if they really need help in making their
wedding plans until they begin thinking of all the little details involved in
planning the biggest day of their life! A new bride should do her homework in researching
services offered and decide if she needs a Wedding Director (rehearsal and
“day-of” directing only), a Wedding Coordinator (who takes over after you have
found your vendors and finishes the process of coordinating events through the
wedding day), or a
full-service Wedding Planner where you will be privy to
their entire collection of preferred vendors, enjoy their assistance at vendor
meetings, as well as their hands-on
experience for the whole design and planning process.
A good coordinator believes every wedding should be the
unique dream of each bride. That’s where customer service is key. The bridal
industry has a surplus of “similar” companies, providing ‘similar’ ideas,
prices and quality. With outstanding
resources and organizational talents, an ideal coordinator should have enough
experience in the wedding world to bring to each bride the expertise of
organizing a wedding of any size and style ...providing a wedding production
worthy of each couple’s dream!
